Full disclosure: I’m a generous investor with my marketing content, but a cheap curmudgeon with my marketing budget.
The active work at MyMarketingWriter.com keeps me busy, but I’m a one-man show. So it does me no good that I can generate millions of dollars by writing content for happy clients, if I can’t save some of what they pay me for the good ol’ American pastimes. Like food and shelter. And the occasional baseball game.
So I stand by my continued use of the famous maxim which says…
“Content is King.”
Design is a luxurious surplus. I first do as much as I can without spending a dime.
On that note, I unveil here the simple avatar that now represents MMW on all the social networks, like our new Facebook page and our twitter ID. Replacing (or supplementing) my regular-joe face with this typographic logo has dramatically changed the reaction to content from the network populations. Simple as it is, this small visual helps anchor the business in people’s minds, gives it a persona of its own–away from mine as a person.
Another good thing (I hope): I reduced a long-ish brand name to two letters. Also, I wanted to lighten the attitude of the brand to avoid stuffy, old-school perceptions–so this image carries a good bit of… whimsy.
Best of all, the project was fast (10-15 minutes) and free.
Watch for this avatar on your favorite social network. It may evolve a bit, but I think we (me and my networks) are going to take my uber-cheap logo-type and run with it for some time. Let’s see how much we can do with oh-so-very little.

"To say I was ‘blown away’ is an understatement.
